Childbirth Classes

Giving birth is a milestone in every woman's life -a turning point, a transition, the first separation. Your baby becomes a separate person, and after nine months of living as two your body becomes your own again.

Giving life is the most natural thing in the world. Still, many cares and anxieties crop up in the last weeks of pregnancy. This is normal. Childbirth classes help prepare you for this unique experience. Most classes are designed to help both expectant parents overcome their anxieties and fully understand what they are about to experience.
Many courses are available, especially during the sixth and seventh months of pregnancy. The most common are listed below.
  • Autogenic breathing
  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Preparation for a water birth
  • Yoga
  • Gentle exercise
  • Stretching
  • Aromatherapy
  • Music therapy.
The conditioning offered in such classes incorporates systematic exercises to relax the abdominal and lumbar muscles that are used during labor and delivery. Participants also learn breathing techniques for the different stages of labor.

There are usually about ten couples in a childbirth class. Classes are coordinated by psychologists, gynecologists, and obstetrical specialists. It is often helpful to be able to compare stories with other mothers and couples, talk over impressions and feelings, and exchange advice and information.
